Favorite Facilitator Moment Day #13:  Regenerate
This image is from a moment at the Mobile Homecoming and Quirky Black Girls collaborative event “Regenerate” held during Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride several years ago.  This day-long event that included dialogue, singing, delicious food an intergenerational dance party and more.  One of my favorite moments was when Mary Hooks broke into song and everyone harmonized their way into the spirit.  Another favorite moment was when Ifalade TaShia Asanti expressed being relieved that she could actually rest because the event had showed her that there was a generation ready to take on the transformative activist and artistic work that she had dedicated so many years to.  Just this past week I heard Lee Henry Jordan echo that sentiment at the Where Have You Been All My Life event in Minneapolis.
I believe that there is a brilliance present when there are multiple generations in a room together that is priceless for our renewal and our revolution.
If you believe in the value of facilitating intergenerational spaces you should definitely come to the Juneteenth Freedom Academy for Facilitators: Durham, NC Nov 1-2, 2014!!!!

Of Knowledge.  Collage for Claudia Jones by Alexis Pauline Gumbs.
Claudia Jones is gangsta. Today’s meditation comes from a moment when she stood trial for being a communist aka having a systemic analysis of freedom aka being a person who grew up in poverty who was intolerant of the structures that create poverty and spoke proudly knowing that she faced imprisonment and deportation.  With Claudia on our side no one can shame us ever again.
